Jan C. Gawthrop, D.V.M. "Dr. Jan"

Founder and President

Both founder and veterinarian, Dr. Gawthrop’s primary goal is coaching clients in good husbandry and management to prevent disease and poor performance. Dr. Gawthrop grew up on a dairy and poultry farm in Etna Green, Indiana. Dr. Gawthrop graduated from Purdue University in 1975 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and has never stopped learning. Dr. Gawthrop is licensed in five states. He continues to seek out smarter ways to raise calves by offering contract research services. Dr. Gawthrop has lectured in Belgium, Costa Rica, Canada, New Zealand and across the United States...

Kevin K. Funk, D.V.M. "Dr. Kevin"

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Kevin Funk has partnered with CalfCare since 2015. Dr. Funk lives in Warsaw, Indiana and brings a great background in dairy and mixed medicine to the practice. Dr. Funk practiced mixed and dairy medicine throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and Washington for 26 years prior to joining CalfCare. He received his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and attended graduate school at Southern Illinois University. Dr. Funk graduated from the University of Illinois in 1989 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and has been on the “moo”ve ever since! Growing up in Lincoln, Illinois, he was inspired to dedicate his career to veterinary medicine from a young age. He enjoys watching clients achieve success in their business. Jonathan M. Richardson, D.V.M. "Dr. Jon"

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Jon Richardson completed his undergraduate studies in Animal Science and completed his DVM at Purdue University. He grew up on a farm in Wabash, IN where his family raised confinement cattle, swine, goats, chickens and harvested corn and soybeans. With his hands-on experience, Dr. Jon takes pride in building relationships with clients and offering quality services to help them grow their businesses. He is eager to diversify CalfCare’s food animal services including reproductive medicine, cow/calf, and small ruminant. He hopes to build his knowledge pertaining to neonatal calf management and help improve the industry through cutting edge research. Cierra Miller, D.V.M. "Dr. Cierra"

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Cierra Miller is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and strives to assist producers in reaching their goals to produce happy, healthy calves. Dr. Miller currently resides in Warsaw, Indiana, but has visited and lived many places during her childhood growing up in the army. Dr. Miller is BQA and PQA certified as well as a member of AABP, AASRP, and DCHA. Dr. Miller brings many strengths to CalfCare and clients, including good communication and problem solving. Dr. Miller is excited to learn and grow with CalfCare-especially in bovine nutrition and diagnostics, including thoracic ultrasound. Outside of work, Dr. Miller enjoys exploring nature with her dogs and reading books. Someday, you may find Dr. Miller learning how to paddleboard! Dr. Miller’s favorite part about CalfCare is the knowledge base that is shared in order to provide the best outcome for clients.

Andy Skidmore, D.V.M. "Dr. Andy"

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Andrew Skidmore “Dr. Andy” received his DVM from Kansas State University. Following graduation, he joined a mixed animal practice in Wisconsin then attended Cornell University for his PhD in dairy cattle management. Following his PhD, he went on to be the dairy management specialist at Michigan State University. Departing Michigan State University lead Dr. Skidmore to a career path that includes diverse roles such as agricultural business consultant, turnaround dairy manager for a veterinary practice, technical advisor for a feed company, Merck Animal Health’s Global Ruminant Technical Director for Reproduction and Parasite Control and Technical Support for Lallemand Nutrition. Throughout all this experience, Dr. Andy has spent over 50 years learning the ins and outs of cattle. Dr. Andy is a member of AABP (American Association of Bovine Practitioners), AVC (Academy of Veterinary Consultants), ADSA (American Dairy Science Association) and ARPAS (American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists). Dr. Andy lives with his wife of over 40 years. They have 4 children and 11 grandchildren. The 2 girls live in Indianapolis with 6 of the grandchildren. The 2 boys live in Utah with their families and 5 other grandchildren. When Dr. Andy completes his “honey do list” and between grandchildren activities he enjoys wood working, wood carving, bee keeping and recently welding! Four of the last nine months he has been attending trade school to become a welder. The other 5 months have been spent trying to heal and rehabilitate his left hand after a traumatic encounter with a table saw.
