Jan C. Gawthrop, D.V.M. "Dr. Jan"

Founder and President

Both founder and veterinarian, Dr. Gawthrop’s primary goal is coaching clients in good husbandry and management to prevent disease and poor performance. Dr. Gawthrop grew up on a dairy and poultry farm in Etna Green, Indiana. Dr. Gawthrop graduated from Purdue University in 1975 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and has never stopped learning. Dr. Gawthrop is licensed in five states. He continues to seek out smarter ways to raise calves by offering contract research services. Dr. Gawthrop has lectured in Belgium, Costa Rica, Canada, New Zealand and across the United States...

Christen McKaig, D.V.M. "Dr. Christy"

Associate Veterinarian

“Dr. Christy” has been serving CalfCare clients and calves since 2012. Dr. McKaig’s interest in cattle started at a young age. She grew up on a dairy farm in Logansport, Indiana. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at Purdue University, and then graduated from the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Dr. McKaig has a wide range of previous experience in dairy medicine and mixed animal practice that has helped her quickly diagnose and treat individuals and populations of animals. Dr. McKaig’s inspiration is providing a safe and abundant food supply on both a local and global level. She appreciates the work and sacrifice of farmers to provide for their communities. Dr. McKaig wants Americans to be proud of the quality food they serve their families...

Anne Budzinski, D.V.M. "Dr. Annie"

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Anne Budzinski ("Ba-jin-skee") is eager to help clients and their calves. Dr. Budzinski completed her bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University in Animal Science and graduated as a Production Animal Scholar in 2011. She is a 2015 graduate of Michigan State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Growing up on a small beef farm in northern Michigan, she raised beef, pork, hens, potatoes, and crops. Her passion is partnering with clients to troubleshoot common calf problems and find solutions. Dr. Budzinski enjoys educating clients about techniques and protocols to improve production and welfare. In her free time, Dr. Budzinski enjoys spending time with her husband, Anthony, and son, Stanley, on their farm where they grow crops, gather honey, and produce maple syrup for the local farmer’s market...

Kevin K. Funk, D.V.M. "Dr. Kevin"

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Kevin Funk has partnered with CalfCare since 2015. Dr. Funk lives in Warsaw, Indiana and brings a great background in dairy and mixed medicine to the practice. Dr. Funk practiced mixed and dairy medicine throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and Washington for 26 years prior to joining CalfCare. He received his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and attended graduate school at Southern Illinois University. Dr. Funk graduated from the University of Illinois in 1989 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and has been on the “moo”ve ever since! Growing up in Lincoln, Illinois, he was inspired to dedicate his career to veterinary medicine from a young age. He enjoys watching clients achieve success in their business. Dr. Funk also has a passion for solving difficult cases, whether on a herd or individual level...
