Christen McKaig, D.V.M. "Dr. Christy"

Associate Veterinarian

“Dr. Christy” has been serving CalfCare clients and calves since 2012. Dr. McKaig’s interest in cattle started at a young age. She grew up on a dairy farm in Logansport, Indiana. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at Purdue University, and then graduated from the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Dr. McKaig has a wide range of previous experience in dairy medicine and mixed animal practice that has helped her quickly diagnose and treat individuals and populations of animals. Dr. McKaig’s inspiration is providing a safe and abundant food supply on both a local and global level. She appreciates the work and sacrifice of farmers to provide for their communities. Dr. McKaig wants Americans to be proud of the quality food they serve their families. She is a member of AABP and AVC. When Dr. McKaig is not consulting with clients, she is active in her church and raises dairy breed steers for freezer beef. Dr. McKaig is also skilled at knitting, baking, cooking, gardening, and preserving food from her garden.

Dr. McKaig believes CalfCare is a standout practice because the team does not just fix a problem but digs down to find the root of the problem to prevent it from happening again.
